It is important when speaking to those who are fixated religiously, to talk about the freedom of the mind, to not be bound by religious beliefs and assumptions. For this will blind you to other people. It will blind you to other faith traditions. It will blind you to the Work of God, who moves through all things, the Spirit of God, who moves through all things, within and beyond one’s own religion and within and beyond the religions of all others.
For in a universe of intelligent life, there are countless religions. So the Work of God transcends them. And though your religious training and understanding may prepare you for a deeper experience, you will have to go beyond your religious beliefs and understanding to have this experience. Having this experience will make your mind more tolerant and more able to see the reality that exists beyond the intellect.
The true experience of God is beyond belief. Here it is necessary to see that God’s Plan is to save everyone. Therefore, there can never be just one teacher and one teaching. God has given a series of great Revelations presented by the Messengers of human history, the great Teachers who brought a real change to human understanding and perception. This is because God’s Plan is to save everyone and not just the chosen few. For not everyone can follow one teacher or one teaching. God knows this. God does what works, even if it seems incomprehensible to us down here below.
Christianity is but one of the gates. Islam is but one of the gates. Judaism and Buddhism are other gates. These are the main gates. There is a small percentage of people in the world who can come to God without a faith tradition, but most people will need a larger pathway with much companionship and reinforcement to be able to make this approach.
God understands this, of course, understanding the real nature and predicament of living in Separation here in the physical reality. To understand God’s Work in the world, you cannot condemn the other gates that God has created. But you must understand they have all been changed by man through adoption, through misunderstanding and through corruption.
Therefore, the pure Revelation will have to be found beyond one’s own set of ideas and assumptions about God and religion. If you cannot go beyond this, then you will not see and you will not know and you will not feel the Presence that abides with you, which is all merciful, which is extremely tolerant, which is extremely inclusive and extremely benevolent.
In this way, the true nature and purpose of God can be felt and experienced even as it transcends your understanding. Here you must be willing to go beyond your religious upbringing, if you have had one, to enter the mystery of your true relationship with God, which exists beyond the realm and the reach of the intellect, which exists beyond the realm and the reach of religious ideology. This is the difference between one who is true to their faith and one who only believes in and defends its principles or ideology. To know God is to know the benevolence, the tolerance, the forgiveness and the patience of God, to know that God is not like us.
Beware then of the prison house of religious belief, from which the world looks dangerous and condemned. Living there will lead you to judgment, condemnation and violence towards others—violence either in your thought but also in your action. To use religion as a pretext for war and condemnation is a complete misunderstanding of its purpose and meaning.
God is not seeking the chosen few. God’s Plan is to save everyone. God does not condemn because God knows that without Knowledge, the deeper Knowledge that God has placed within us; that has been given us to guide us, to protect us and to lead us to a greater life of fulfillment and meaning— without this, people will be in error. People will live in error, relying upon their beliefs and assumptions alone, which can never account for the Greater Reality—the Greater Reality of our origin, our destiny and our Source.
Know that you must transcend your belief in order to have the direct experience, in order to step beyond the limits in the prison house of the mind. For you can only be separate from God in your mind, in your thoughts, in your beliefs. And the more that you invest in them, the more solid they become; the more restraining they become; the more jaded the outlook of life around you they become; the more defensive and condemning they become; the more resistant to other ideas, other experiences, other faith traditions and other people they become. It is the trap of Separation.
Beyond your own intellect, you can escape these limits, but you must be willing to go into the mystery without preconceived notions, without insisting that life and reality bend to your understanding or can be explained by your understanding. God has given you the eyes to see and the ears to hear, but you must go beyond your intellect to experience this. Your beliefs and assumptions can help you to see, but they cannot take you over the threshold. They can give you a structure and framework in order to develop, but they cannot take you the whole way. They cannot bridge the gap between you and God. They cannot restore to you your Ancient Memory of your life beyond this world. They cannot give you what only God can give you.
Do not become a slave to your thoughts, your beliefs or your admonitions, for this leads to condemnation and violence and the repudiation of others, whose faith traditions are as authentic as yours, born of God, for they have all been born of God.
God has planted many seeds in the world, not just for individuals but for large numbers of people. They have been changed and distorted over time, but their essence can still be found if you have the courage and the determination to seek them out.
No religion, therefore, should be truly exclusive. For there are many ways up this mountain, and God is calling everyone to come, to come on whatever pathway exists for them given their culture, their time in life and their orientation.
Do not become a slave to your ideas, or you will become a destructive force in the world. This is indeed happening throughout the world today as religious violence increases, as fundamentalists wage war upon the public. The violence, the cruelty and the oppression that has plagued religion throughout the ages is being demonstrated in the world today—demonstrated by people who adhere only to their beliefs and ideas, and use these beliefs and ideas to oppress others.
This is the great risk of becoming part of a religious tradition. Perhaps to someone who is just beginning, they need these structures and this restraint. But to somebody who is going to truly grow within their faith tradition, they must outgrow these things and become mature, or they will never know God, and they will never understand the Messenger who brought their faith tradition into the world, and they will never appreciate how God is really working in the world beyond the reach of the human mind.
So refreshing and revitalizing to hear The Messenger, this messenger for these, our times, speak so poignantly of other religions and faith traditions with such depth clarity and relevance regarding the pitfalls of our dogged adherence to our belief systems. That we can actually wage, justify and perpetuate war in the name of God, of Allah must only be viewed as utter ignorance or as blaspheme. We’re at a crucial juncture in our development, maturity and evolution, surely, where we now must thirst for The Real God Experience over our mere dogma and religious recitals. Marshall makes a mystical and practical point here all at once.
How Blessed are we to be present in the world at this time; the time of the Messenger; a time of Revelation, with Him! He speaks and walks among us and yet we go about our business as though all is good and normal.
Yet He is here with this and indeed the landscape is illuminated. I am humbled to my core.
A brilliant message. We all need to open up our minds and accept wholeheartedly that there are many paths to attaining God. Let’s not use religion as a basis to plant seeds of hatred. Ultimately we are all the same irrespective of different faiths or skin colour. There is no ONE religion. Thank you for bringing this message to the world.

Thank you MVS for this message, it is so very important
Belief seems to be used like a get out of jail free card. How we treat others, our judgments, our refusal to consider other points of view, all covered over as long as we say “I believe.” Marshall shows the way past the “prison of belief” to the freedom beyond belief.
I like this quote,”God has planted many seeds in the world, not just for individuals but for large numbers of people. They have been changed and distorted over time, but their essence can still be found if you have the courage and the determination to seek them out.” This gives me a great feeling that in a very short span of time many more people are going to have the experience of living with the progressive steps it takes to understand the Messenger’s purpose,
Thank you Marshall for this great teaching. With studying the New Message and engaging in the preparation of
Steps to Knowledge, I have come to feel a deep honoring for other’s religious paths. A feel the freedom from the heavy weight of judgment that I was taught as a child. Such a great relief and blessing this freedom of mind is!
Thank you. We are so blessed people to live Messenger’s time. NASI NOVARE CORAM
Thank you deeply Marshall for the clarity and wisdom of this message and the comments. I have no faith but the knowing of God in all of us as Gods children. My work has taken me into the heart of humanity irrespective of race, tradition, religion or culture. We are each Gods love if we set aside our conditioned belief systems and what we label ourselves with. Purity of heart, mind and soul in loving service to one another is the most beautiful way we can strive to be and give in this world without judgement or condemnation. Blessings
I can testify to the truth in this article. I was raised in a very strict, involved Lutheran family. My sister is a Deaconess. My mom’s life revolves around her church. For the 16 years before my parents divorced,we were extremely active in our church. The whole time I never felt anything. No presence of God, had no clue what a personal relationship with him was and didn’t understand my sister’s early call into the ministry. I figured I just wasn’t good enough for all that. In 1992 I found out different. The thing was, I had given up on church. I had moved to a small town in Missouri and could not find a church where I felt accepted. Everything I was taught to believe, all the rules and the obligation to participate was dismissed. It was then that God met me where I was, revealed himself to me and for the next 5 years I developed a real relationship with him. He was actively speaking to me every day through the Holy Spirit, led me into an extensive study of the Bible and inspired me to read over 100 books on everything from psychology to angels and spiritual warfare. When I had achieved his goal, the experience ended and he turned my focus to raising my children. My last child just turned 18 this year. From 2010 to 2015 I was completely broken by a narcissist relationship. For two years I was a shell of a human being. In Aug 2017, he made his self known again and ever since he’s been rebuilding me into what he truly created me to be, not what I was trained to be. I’m at the point in the process now that I proclaim his goodness, grace, mercy and love every chance he gives me. I have understanding and access to knowledge like I’ve never had in my life. He has given me the understanding of the reasons and purpose for every trial, struggle and event in my life. And little by little he’s showing me his divine purpose for my life. It’s been amazing ❤️

“God exists beyond all of this—the real God, the pure God that has been shining like the sun upon you.
, …
Regardless of the clouds in the sky, regardless of the pollution in the atmosphere and the turbulence on the ground, God is like the sun shining upon you.
But God is beyond the sun, beyond any definition that you can make. Beyond your histories, beyond the great teachers and the great Messengers from God, beyond the great spiritual books and testimonies, there is God the Creator and the Author of your life and existence.
What God has created in you lives within you now. It lives beyond your intellect, beyond your thoughts and understanding, beyond your concepts, beyond your ideas and beliefs in a deeper place within you—a deeper mind, a mind that in the New Message is called Knowledge. It is the mind that knows. It is the mind that waits. It is the mind that sees clearly without distortion, without fear, without preference, without confusion, without speculation—a deeper mind within you.
This is what God has created in you that is permanent, that will last forever. Beyond your temporary identity in this world, beyond all the events of this world and all other worlds, beyond the river of your experience in this life, there is Knowledge within you, and it is God that is the Author of this Knowledge.”

(Note: “YOU HAVE GREAT FRIENDS BEYOND THIS WORLD. That is why humanity is seeking to enter into the Greater Community because the Greater Community represents a broader range of its true relationships. You have true friends beyond the world because you are not alone in the world and you are not alone in the Greater Community of Worlds. You have friends beyond this world because your Spiritual Family has its representatives everywhere. You have friends beyond this world because you are working not merely on the evolution of your world but on the evolution of the universe as well. Beyond your imagination, beyond your conceptual capabilities, this is most certainly true.” Steps to Knowledge Excerpt from Step 211)
