Beneath the surface of your life, there is a sacred place, a holy shrine, a place where people come to pray or give devotion, a place of deeper meaning, a place of mystery.
Everyone wants freedom – the freedom to survive, the freedom to be secure, the freedom to meet the basic needs of life: food, water, clothing and shelter. Everyone wants the freedom to pursue their goals and interests. Everyone wants the freedom to establish meaningful relationships with others.
There is so much to discourage you in the world. There is so much aggravation, so much violence, so much disappointment and so much uncertainty. It is so easy to fall into despair. It is so easy to doubt oneself and others. It is so easy to think the future is doomed in some way, or hopeless.
You were born with two minds — the deeper mind that God has given you, the mind you had before you came into the world, the mind you will have once you leave the world–and you have a worldly mind, shaped and conditioned by your experience of the world and by your response to all those experiences and all the influences that have shaped your thinking, attitudes and beliefs since the day you were born.
You are not your mind. You are not your intellect. Who you are is not your thoughts. You are not your beliefs. You are not your memories. You are not your conflicts. You are not those things that you identify with.
You have a primary relationship with God, and you experience this relationship primarily through the deeper Intelligence that God has placed within you, a deeper Mind within you called Knowledge. This is your most primary relationship and responsibility. It is not a relationship with a set of beliefs or with an institution. It is not necessarily a relationship with an ideology or with one religion particularly. It is really, in its purest sense, your relationship with God.
